The need to understand both the physical and mental aspects of sport and exercise in order to improve performance is becoming increasingly essential in today’s competitive sporting arena.

If you’re looking to understand how different psychological factors can impact decisions, motivations and performance in sport and exercise, then look no further than Arden’s upcoming course in Sport and Exercise Psychology.

This undergraduate degree is aligned to meet criteria for accreditation by the British Psychological Society (BPS), meaning that upon successful completion, you’ll be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) – the basic requirement to train as a professional psychologist. Accreditation is pending.

About the BSc (Hons) Sport & Exercise Psychology programme

Our undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology is ideal if you want to gain a qualification that will enable you to develop your understanding of psychology in sport.

You’ll be introduced to core psychological subject areas, including social, cognitive and biological psychology, as well as exploring the key factors impacting individuals, teams and organisations in sport and exercise settings, such as behaviours and motivations. Combining the experiential science of psychology with cognitive and motivational factors of exercise and sport performance of athletes will provide you with an understanding of real life applications of psychological theory to the full range of experience and behaviour, particularly in sport settings.

What can I do with a degree in Sport & Exercise Psychology?

As a Sport and Exercise Psychologist, you could work in a wide variety of roles. This could include:

  • Counselling those in demanding, stressful and competitive sport environments, such as referees;
  • Supporting athletes with personal development, including positive self-talk;
  • Managing psychological consequences from sport injury;
  • Advising coaches and athletes with building team morale and motivation.

You’ll be able to evaluate the way people think and behave during sport and exercise and how that thinking affects performance.
